DRESS HACK

For an easy summer dress simply add equal length to the front and back ruffle pattern pieces. I like to start with adding 17" (43 cm). This gives enough length to have a wider hem if desired.

Use the new front and back ruffle pattern pieces and continue sewing the pattern according to the directions.

FABRIC

I absolutely love using our artisan screen print fabric here, and isn't this wide stripe amazing! It's a perfect summer fabric, lightweight and airy with a beautiful drape that keeps it's shape.

HEM BAND

Adding a hem band to the bottom of the dress is another super fun way to show a little personality. It's also a great way to add length if you accidentally cut your fabric too short. Raise your hand if you've been there. 🙋‍♀️

To add a hem band to your Wave float Top Dress follow these easy steps.

1. Add equal length to the front and back ruffle as you did before. But this time only add about 12" (31 cm). the rest of the length will be made up with the hem band.

2. The measurement of the front hem band will be the width of bottom front ruffle by 10" (25 cm) high. Cut 1 Piece of fabric this length.

3. The measurement of the back hem band will be the width of bottom back ruffle by 10" (25 cm) high. Cut 1 Piece of fabric this length

4. With right sides together align front and back hem bands. Pin short ends. Sew with a 1/2" (1.3 cm) seam allowance. Press seams open.

5. With wrong sides touching, fold hem band in half lengthwise and press in place.

6. Sew the hem band to the bottom of your dress by aligning the bottom raw edge of dress to folded raw edges of hem band with right sides together. Pin in place. Sew with a 1/2" (1.3 cm) seam allowance. Press seam toward dress.

You're done! How easy was that! I can't wait to see what creative adventures you take with this simple hack.

Great question! You will need additional 1.5 yards of fabric to make the dress the length shown.
