How do I print a PDF pattern at home?

We love PDF sewing patterns. The are accessible, simple to use once you have it down, and offer a quick and seamless sewing experience. We recommend downloading Adobe Acrobat to view and print your PDF. It is free and you can download it here.

The most important thing to remember when printing PDF patterns is making sure you are printing at the correct size.

PDF patterns can be printed on letter sized (8.5 x 11 in) or A4 paper. When you print, make sure you select “Actual Size” or scale to 100%. Do not select “scale to fit” as this will distort the size and your pattern will not come out with the same measurements stated in our size chart.

We recommend printing page 1 of the PDF first and measuring the test square before printing the rest of your pattern.

If your pattern isn’t printing centered on the page, change the orientation to “Auto”.

Does your PDF pattern have layers? What does that mean?

Yes! All of our PDFs contain layers with each size on it’s own layer. This makes it easy for you to print and assemble only your size without having to deal with additional line markings and extra information that does not apply to your size.

To view the layers in Adobe Acrobat simple click on the layer icon on the side panel or use the menu to navigate to View > Show/Hide > Navigation Panes > Layers. Simple click the eye ball icon next to each layer to hide or reveal.

How do I assemble a PDF pattern at home?

Read a detailed blog post about assembling PDF patterns here!

After all pages are taped together you can cut out the pattern pieces in your size or use pattern paper to trace over the taped pattern so you can save it to trace another size later.

What is a Copy Shop/A0 pattern and how do I print it?

All of our PDF pattern downloads come with a Copy Shop/A0 PDF file. This is an easy way to get all of your pattern pieces on one big sheet of paper if you do not want to take the time to print smaller pages and tape them together.

“Copyshop” paper is 36” x 46” and is used primarily in the US, while “A0” paper is approximately 33” x 47” and is used in the rest of the word.

We have assembled a list of companies that offer this service here.
