How to Sew Patch Pockets

Step 1

Cut 2 pieces of fusible interfacing, 1” tall by the width of your pocket.

To stabilize the pocket opening, apply fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the pocket, placing the interfacing 1/4”  down from the top raw edge. The bottom of your interfacing should land at your two notches.

Step 2

With wrong side facing up, fold down the top raw edge by 1/4” towards the wrong side. Press in place.

Step 3

With right side facing up, fold down the top folded edge at the notches towards the right side. Press in place.

Step 4

With a 1/2” seam allowance, sew down the outer folded edge on both sides of the pocket.

Step 6

With a 1/2” seam allowance, sew a guide line around the curved area of the pocket.

Step 7

Using that stitch line as a guide, fold down the raw edges of the pocket towards the wrong side. Press in place. Repeat for other pocket.
