Our Homebody Quilted Jacket is such a fun sew! It is a deceptively simple pattern that comes together quite quickly. Don't be intimidated, it's much easier than it appears. You'll get to learn basic quilting skills, practice your bias binding and have a cozy, oversized jacket to keep you toasty.

A note on sewing

Our patterns and instructions are meant to work in the simplest way for the widest audience. If you have an alternate method for making or an idea that you want to try out then go for it! This is one of our favorite things about sewing, you can adapt and go. There are very few MUSTS and most of the time you can work through a problem as you sew.

Do I need any quilting experience?

No! No quilting experience is needed, you will learn the skills to create an heirloom quality quilted jacket. It's easier than you think!

What is the skill level?

Intermediate. Skills include quilting, elastic channel, bias binding, buttonholes and buttons. An adventurous beginner with confidence can certainly tackle this make. A little delusion goes a long way, haha!

Is the bias binding hard?

No, not as hard as it seems. We walk you through each step and break it down for you. The best way to get good with bias binding is practice.

Can I use pre-made bias tape?

Yes! Any double fold bias tape that is 1 5/8” or larger. If you have experience with and like using premade bias then this method works great.

I am a quilter and have not sew garments. Can I make this?

Heck yeah! This is a great pattern to start with. It's deceptively simple and comes together quickly.

What fabric should I use?

Anything will work, that's the beauty of quilting! We love Block Print cottons for their softness or a more structured Denim or Twill for their boxy/unisex shape. Or go through your sewing stash and pull out those precious scraps you've been saving.

Can I use pre-quilted material or a quilt I’ve thrifted or purchased new?

Yes! Go for it. Just start cutting your pattern pieces and skip the quilting steps in the instructions.
