What It’s Like to Sew

Linen is wonderfully forgiving to sew with, making it a lovely choice for beginners. Because this linen is especially soft and billowy, it can shift a little while cutting and sewing, but don’t let that deter you. Take your time, use plenty of pins or pattern weights, and let the fabric do what linen does. It presses beautifully, feels wonderful in your hands, and is an absolute must-try if you haven’t sewn with soft washed linen before.

What to Sew

This versatile midweight linen works beautifully for relaxed everyday garments with a little structure and plenty of movement.

  • Dresses and pinafores
  • Relaxed tops and blouses
  • Button-up shirts
  • Elastic-waist pants and shorts
  • Full or gathered skirts
  • Jumpsuits and overalls
  • Lightweight jackets and layering pieces

Care & Color Notes

We recommend prewashing your fabric before cutting, since linen may shrink during its first wash. Machine wash in cool water on a gentle cycle and tumble dry low or hang to dry. Wash and dry it the same way you plan to care for your finished garment.

We do our very best to photograph our fabrics as accurately as possible, but every screen displays color a little differently. Because of this, the color you see on your computer, tablet, or phone may not be an exact match to the fabric in person. If color is especially important for your project, we always recommend ordering a swatch first.
