Why We Love It

Our Relaxed Cotton Canvas is a Matchy Core fabric for a reason. It has the durability and structure you want from a canvas, but it is not stiff or overly heavy. It’s soft, comfortable, and moves with you, while still giving your finished garment a beautifully clean shape.

We really love the subtle, pebble-like texture—it adds just enough dimension to make even a simple pair of pants or chore jacket feel really special. If you haven’t sewn with canvas before, we definitely encourage you to give this one a try. It’s a wonderful alternative to denim or twill, and it makes everyday garments feel effortlessly polished without being fussy.

Fabric Details

This midweight 100% cotton canvas is sturdy enough for hardworking garments but soft enough to wear comfortably. It has a gently structured drape and a subtle textured surface that will become even softer and more relaxed with washing.

What It’s Like to Sew

This fabric is such a satisfying one to sew. It cuts cleanly, presses beautifully, and stays put while you work—no slipping, stretching, or fighting you at the machine. It’s a great choice for newer sewists, but experienced makers will love how easily it creates crisp seams, tidy topstitching, and professional-looking details.

What to Sew

This fabric is a natural fit for garments and accessories that need a little structure while still feeling relaxed and wearable. We’d use it for:

  • Pants and structured shorts
  • Overalls and utility-style garments
  • Chore coats and lightweight jackets
  • Workwear-inspired button-up shirts
  • Structured dresses and skirts
  • Bags, totes, and everyday accessories

Care & Color Notes

We recommend prewashing your fabric before cutting, as cotton may shrink during its first wash. Machine wash in cold water on a gentle cycle, then tumble dry on low or hang to dry. Use a warm iron when needed.

This canvas will continue to soften with each wash while keeping the structure and durability that make it so useful.

We do our very best to photograph our fabrics as accurately as possible, but every screen displays color a little differently. Because of this, the color you see on your computer, tablet, or phone may not be an exact match to the fabric in person. If color is especially important for your project, we always recommend ordering a swatch first.
